I'm being deliberately vague, I want others to maybe see this for what it means eventually too. Endings and if they're even worth moving on from, endings not in relation to new chapters in one life but the strength necessary in becoming an independent person that can realize a new chapter to begin with, endings and how they grief people in such stunningly prolonged ways, endings and what someone would do to prevent an ending from being an ending at all, endings and how martyred responsibility need not be how you end it all. This is a visual novel that is, obviously, concerned with fleeting adolescence, coming of age, self actualization and more generally, endings. At its core there are the familiar tenets that make up the being of any self-respecting KEY nakige, a propensity for heightened and occasionally grating personal drama, a vein of magical realism that runs through the overarching narrative, a host of girls that differ from their set VN archetypes JUST enough to charming, and a common route packed to the brim with requisite Slice-Of-Life passages that have an alarmingly high batting average in how funny and entertaining they can be. Little Busters is not so adventurous a follow-up KEY title that its distinction arises from any foundational differences in its writing, though.

And I do think there is a distinction to be made in the way that Little Busters struck me that I would be inclined to even write what is essentially a letter of endearment for a work I am not as attached to as Clannad. With that statement planted firmly in the proverbial ground, I want to address the far more compelling question of "why" that is so oft avoided with respect to KEY VNs. Little Busters tells the story of protagonist Riki Naoe, who is a member of the titular Little Busters, a group consisting of four boys and one girl who have all been close friends since childhood.
